We need to make work pay. Currently, Universal Credit will provide up to £23,000 per year if you know how to maximise your claim. Our average wage is around £30,000 which is around £23,000 after tax. If you are low paid, why would you go out of your way to earn your own living?

Working gives people self respect and autonomy.

Welfare needs to be a safety net, not a lifestyle choice for the feckless.
